Cost of beauty

Filed under: Uncategorized — christineng @ 3:23 pm

I went for my once in a year facial last week, after much persuasion from my three sisters. I am very different from them as I am not too concerned about how I look. They go for their once a month facials faithfully for the past few years forking out $$$$ so that they will look younger. Or they will spend $$$ on facial products to maintain their youthful looks. As for me, my heart will ache if I need to spend so much $$$ just to look good.

Anyway, the beautician was horrified ( real or not, I don’t know lah) when she saw me.

“What happened to you? You looked so old and haggard!!” she exclaimed.

Huh, old? I am only 30 plus leh!

Anyway she said that there are wrinkles on my face, near my eyes and near my mouth. My skin has also started to age and sag! I looked older than any of the sisters though I am not the eldest. And she said that I am lucky that my hubby does not despise me although I look so old. Anyway, she put so much fear in me that I decided to sign up for a facial package. I think my heart stopped for a min or two when she showed me the charge slip to sign. What!! $1000 plus just for 5 facials sessions! I think my heart has started to bleed and I am sure that you can see drips on blood on the carpet if you look close enough. Hubby has generously offered to pay for the package. Thanks dear. I promise that this will be the last package that I will ever signed up. Never will I fall into the trap again!!

The beauty salon is at Hougand Central, so avoid if you don’t want to be lead astray by the clever beauticians there!

A job offer

I am currently teaching part time at a local Poly just to earn some pocket money for myself and also to have a short break from the kids twice a week.

I was pleasantly surprised when the staff at the Poly actually offered me a full time job there if I want to join them. I was flattered but had to turn them down. It is the first month of the year and I think it is not fair for the kids if I return to a full time job now. Besides, after staying home with them, i can’t imagine placing them in a childcare again! How I wish that I can work full time and yet able to spend so much time with them… But impossible lah, how can I be at two places at the same time? That is the dilemma of a mother face!!

How to wean them off sweets

My kids love to eat sweets especially Elkan. Battles are fought everyday as he asks for his daily fix of sugar. And he will also ask for Coca Cola when we have our meals outside. I tried to reason with him about the harm of eating too much sweets, but was not successful at all. One day at my mom’s place, I asked my mom who is wearing dentures to take them out and show him the bare gums so that he can understand it better when I said that his teeth will drop off if he keeps on eating sweets.

He was having a sweet in his mouth when I told him to go and take a look at “po po” mouth. At the moment, his face paled and the next moment I know, he has run back to me and spit out his sweet!! And from then on, no one can persuade him to put any sweet or Coca Cola into his mouth again! Hooray!!!

Sinagpore School reopens after a long 6 weeks break. This year is a little more special as Kyla and Elkan will be starting at a new school. Kyla will start P1 at PLMGS, and Elkan will attend a 2 hours playgroup. Ariel will continue at LSK at K1.

Here’s some pics of Kyla at her new school, courtesy of my bro in law.

I didn’t realise that it will be such a mad rush every morning…

The day starts at 7.30am with me rushing Ariel to finish her milk so that I can get her ready for school.
8.15am – Ariel school bus
8.20 am – back home to prepare Elkan for his school
9.00 am – Elkan school.
9.10 am – back to prepare lunch
11.00 am – Pick up Elkan from school
11.10 am – Lunch for Kyla and Elkan. Prepare Kyla for school
11.45 am – Pick up Ariel from school bus
12.00 pm – Kyla school
12.30 pm – Ariel lunch

I can only take a breather at one plus after Ariel finish her lunch. Wow, I am usually dead tired by then!! I wonder how a friend who is also a stay home mom cope with four kids and no maid too! I must find ways to do things more efficiently around the house.
