Lion dance at the zoo
We visited the zoo during the chinese new year period and were pleasantly surprised to witness one of the nicest lion dance we had ever seen. From the pics you can see that they are professional lion dance people and not the small fries that “hun shui mo yu” !

Oh I see stars
Kyla, with a “bo-chap” attitude is not too concerned when she does not do well for her spelling or chinese spelling. Once she got only 1 correct out of 5 and when I asked her what happened ( I mean, I made sure she learnt the words well before I released her to school), she shrugged her shoulders and said, “Don’t know!” She did not sound disappointed at all. I need to think of a way, to motivate her to do her very best and be a bit bothered about her work.
So one day, I got some star stickers and did a star chart. I pasted the star chart on the fridge door and explained the rules of the game to the kids. One star when Kyla gets full marks for spelling, chinese spelling or any test or assessment. One star for Ariel when she “passed” the phonics worksheet that her teacher gave her to learn every week. As for Elkan? Hmmm.. A bit tricky. The gals suggested that he will get a star if he does not pee on his bed at night. ( We are trying to do without the night diaper, you see.) As for the prize, they can choose anything from the uncle shop ( the provision shop downstairs) when they have 10 stars.
Amazingly, it worked perfectly! Kyla became more concerned about her school work or assignment. And she will declare proudly if she gets full marks when she returned from school in the evening. As for Ariel, it gets easier to get her to practise her phonics as the reward is so evident. As for Elkan, he will remind you every morning that he is getting a star.
Well, the gals had reached the goal of 10 stars. So I gave them each a $2 note and brought them to the shop as promised. Kyla bought a pack of glitter dust and Ariel bought a Hello Kitty notebook.
Now I need to tell them that I will restart the game for them to accumulating the stars again!
TV fast
Believe it or not! Our family is on a TV fast!!
It started off on Sunday when hubby realized that the kids are watching too much TV over the weekend. I know that the kids watch a lot of TV over the weekend when they are spending so much time at home. On weekdays, with school , enrichment classes and activities, they usually only watch for an hour just before their bedtime. Anyway, I went along with the flow and supported hubby! But I was not confident that the son Elkan will last as he is quite a TV addict!
Amazingly, he did not ask for the TV at all for the first three days. And when he did ask on the fourth day, I gave him the reply that Daddy said no TV. And he actually admitted that he forgot and stopped right there! Wow! The power of Daddy’s words!
Anyway, the TV fast is only for a week. But I am hoping that it will last longer than that!
